1) Advice - Don't get the H1N1 vaccine. Not enough studies and some dangerous ingredients used as excipients. That's my take on it this year.
2) Sadness - So I go to the ED to do an admission and hear that a 15 yo came home from school and hung himself. Who found him? His 9 yo brother. Why? Why? Why? What's so bad in a 15 yo life that this is the answer. Sad.
3) Rant - Reasons why we need healthcare reform.....So I have a patient who has been admitted for 2 days why? No insurance. Patient had insurance but b/c reimbursement poor not enough docs take it. So mom unenrolled her from the plan (w/o checking out fully her options) tried to enroll her in a new plan. they won't take her b/c they think she still has insurance. So she runs out of meds no money to get them filled. So she seizes on Wed. Goes to an ED gets a new rx for same meds (not a soln to the problem) and a dose of meds. Doesn't get the rx filled still no money so she seizes again Sat. She comes to ED gets admitted b/c she has no means of getting the meds. So she has been in the hospital x 2 days why so we can give her meds and maybe work on getting her a free month supply and help her get some insurance. So this is literally a >$100,000 bill at the expense of your tax dollars why b/c she is uninsured so cost will be eaten. Oh and if her mom were to get a job with insurance or try to get a private plan she'll have a long waiting period b/c she has a pre-existing condition. Yeah gotta love our "perfect system"

That is such a shame. I hope you're able to help her get some medication at a reasonable price...
ReplyDeleteI was gonna try to get an H1N1 vaccine... but now, maybe not. What kind of dangerous ingredients??
thimerasol is my big concern.....and yes the hospital got a her a months supply of meds. The SW tried to get her enrolled in insurance. We gave her the money to th epilepsy foundation that sometimes provides meds for free or discounted price
ReplyDeleteWe're trying to decide on whether to get Jae the flu shot this year. Why would you advise against it (what is thimerasol)?
